Maps Credit Union seeks an experienced External Mortgage Loan Officer who thrives on community connection and relationship-building. In this role, you'll actively generate new mortgage business through external sales and outreach, serving as a trusted resource to prospective homebuyers and referral partners. You will originate residential mortgage loans and guide applicants through every step of the process—from initial application to closing—while meeting the goals and performance standards set by the Mortgage Sales Manager. This position is based out of the Seaside Branch and will drive new mortgage business for Maps Credit Union's north coast branches (Seaside and Astoria) and the surrounding areas.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identify, develop, solicit, manage, service and expand member relationships by offering a full range of mortgage products and services to existing and potential new members.
- Collaborate with internal partners to uncover sales opportunities. Proactively profile and regularly contact members and prospects to uncover mortgage loan needs and refer other credit union products and services; follow up to ensure the full opportunity has been captured.
- Proactively generate more than 50% of new business from sources outside of the Credit Union through outside sales activities such as: soliciting new business and loan leads, developing and maintaining sources, and cultivating a referral network with partners such as realtors and builders.
- Facilitate and assist applicants with the mortgage loan application process; manage borrower expectations and establish a valuable trust relationship resulting in repeat business and loan referrals.
- Interview applicants, collect, examine, and evaluate financial and personal data in order to counsel and recommend appropriate lending products.
- Conduct preliminary application review; submit application to processing and underwriting for approval. Maintain a high level of contact with members to ensure that needs are met and documents required for processing, underwriting and closing are secured in a timely manner.
- Provide superior customer service. Correspond, communicate and coordinate with applicants, in-house staff and external providers to facilitate timely closings.
- Ensure all regulatory disclosures are provided to applicants within the compliance timeframe.
- Understand and comply with all aspects of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Truth and Lending Act (TILA) and all other laws, regulations, policies and procedures related the residential loan programs offered and the mortgage origination process.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of mortgage loan products and pricing, and a working knowledge of underwriting requirements for Credit Union, secondary market investors and mortgage insurance companies.
- Partner with and support branch mortgage loan activity; act as a residential loan resource for branch staff, visiting branches on a regular basis to provide training and assist with branch mortgage loan sales efforts.
- Achieve and track mortgage loan and client acquisition goals. Prepare periodic sales activity and performance reports detailing results for senior management review.
- Participate in mortgage loan development activities and represent the Credit Union in networking, industry, and professional associations. Develop and maintain community and business relations by actively participating in groups which can foster client relationships and promote the Credit Union's image within the community.
- Follow regulatory and policy compliance requirements, which include those efforts in compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, Identity Theft Red Flags and other compliance-related policies.
- An Associate's Degree or equivalent professional experience and industry specific training in a relevant field such as Real Estate Lending, Banking, Finance.
- A minimum of 2 years of previous residential mortgage lending experience with progressive responsibilities.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in customer relationships, business development and in direct and indirect selling roles.
- Must be willing to generate over 50% of new mortgage lending business through outside sales activities that include travel to visit clients and attending networking and outreach events within the service area.
- Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license.
- Must be bondable.
- Must meet the minimum standards set by SAFE and any applicable state laws. These minimum standards include but are not limited to: (1) never having the employee's loan originator license revoked in any governmental jurisdiction, and (2) not having been convicted of nor pled guilty or nolo contendere to a felony in a domestic, foreign, or military court (a) during the seven-year period preceding the date of application for licensing and registration, or (b) at any time preceding such date of application if such felony involved an act of fraud, act of dishonesty, a breach of trust, or money laundering.
- Must be eligible to renew and must maintain registration with the Registry or the applicable state agency. Failure to renew or maintain registration will result in immediate termination.
Salary: This outside sales position is exempt, and will receive a semi-monthly base salary paired with the opportunity to earn monthly sales commissions.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday during business hours, with the ability to participate in networking, outreach and social events outside of normal business hours.
Work Location: This position is fully onsite and based out of the Seaside Branch when not participating in external sales activities.
